September 2025: Brief News & Notes

Alliant Ed Foundation Launches Brand New Website
Debuting just last week, we’ve reimagined the Foundation’s website and are proud to share it with you today at www.AlliantEd.org!

The new design, content, and layout better represents who we are and what we do, so we hope you’ll take a few minutes to visit and let us know what you think.

2025 Regional Children’s Mental Health Consortium
There are four important updates on this core program funded by the Alliant Ed Foundation:

  • First, check out the brand new infographic outlining all of the key demographics and statistics about the San Diego-based program through June of 2025. Learn more about this important program’s impact today.
  • Second, we’re proud to announce three new agency partnerships helping to improve the mental health of under-resourced children, youth, and their families, including:
    • Interfaith Community Services
    • Somali Family Service of San Diego
    • Jewish Family & Community Services – East Bay
  • Third, we’re excited to share that this year’s program—including both San Diego and San Francisco/Bay Area—will include the largest cohort of CSPP clinical psychology students placed at youth-serving non-profit and school sites in the history of our program.
  • Lastly, a very special thanks to San Diego Foundation’s Healthy Children & Families Initiative which recently approved a very generous grant to help sustain and expand the San Diego regional program. This support helps underwrite both the core program along with workforce development through stipends for the clinicians. We truly appreciate their generosity!

Join Alliant’s New Giving Circle for the Alliant Pathways Scholarship Fund
Just launched at the annual American Psychological Association’s annual conference in Denver during our CSPP alumni & friends event, the new Alliant Giving Circle offers and easy way for newer alums to give back.

By multiplying the generosity of many smaller gifts, we’re helping newer graduates make a BIG impact by seeding the brand new Alliant Pathways Scholarship Fund for current CSPP students. Join the Giving Circle today at www.AlliantEd.org/donate.

Low-Cost Psychotherapy Site Launching for CSPP Students
In partnership with the California Psychological Association Foundation, AEF is co-funding the development of a new matching website where CSPP graduate students can link up with low-cost or sliding scale clinical psychologists. A requirement for many of the PsyD and PhD programs includes a set number of hours for the trainees’ own participation in psychotherapy. This new resource aims to reduce the financial barriers to securing this service. Learn more or sign up today at www.cpafoundation.org.

50th Anniversary of Connell Persico’s Leadership
September 25th marked the 50th anniversary to the day when Connell Persico began his long and impactful career with the California School of Professional Psychology in Los Angeles (CSPP-LA).

Between that tenure, plus nearly nine years with the Alliant Educational Foundation as a critical board member, we honor and thank Connell for all of his generous leadership and support over these past five decades. A public tribute will take place on Saturday, January 24, 2026 in LA…let us know if you’d like to attend!

New Scholarships for Alliant Students
Each summer, we review hundreds of student applications for the new round of scholarship funding. This annual round of funding is made possible, in large part, by the generosity of more than 50 donor-restricted scholarship funds aimed at helping Alliant students across all campuses. Over $80,000 in tuition assistance will be granted for the coming year. This funding is in addition to $625,000 the Foundation approved for 2025 in direct support for Alliant International University’s annual scholarship process each year.

Growth of the Alliant Ed Foundation “Fellows” Program
This fall marks the launch of the third cohort of the Alliant Ed Foundation (AEF) Fellows, a program supporting 19 incoming students across the State of California in their pursuit of PhD and PsyD degrees in clinical psychology. Many of these students share a commitment to social justice and community impact, high GPA’s, some level of financial need, and in some cases, are the first to attend college or graduate school in their families.

At scale, this program will support 80-100 such students with multi-year scholarships, peer connections, mentorship, and more!

The Next Round of Innovation / Seed Grants
After four successful rounds of investing in new and promising programs, research, and training across the Alliant system, the Foundation is launching a re-tooled fifth year of innovation/seed grants available to all faculty and staff at Alliant. The redesigned funding program encourages several areas of emphasis, helping to address some of the most pressing needs of our time.

RFP’s open up in October and we expect to fund a total of five or more grants across Alliant campuses totaling $50,000 in support.

Recent Site Visits
To better understand the needs of our communities and the ways that Alliant International University and the Foundation can address them, staff and volunteers recently completed site visits and agency meetings in the San Francisco/Bay Area and Phoenix.

Dr. Andrea Karp and CEO Valin Brown met with each of the youth-serving agencies, as well as University leadership affiliated with CSPP’s Office of Professional Training, in and around the Emeryville campus in order to help strengthen the second year’s launch of the Regional Children’s Mental Health Consortium in the Bay Area.

Shortly thereafter, AEF Board Member Cindi Matsumoto and CEO Valin Brown visited with the leadership of Alliant’s School of Nursing and Health Sciences at their Phoenix, AZ campus to learn more about this relatively new program.

Both visits proved insightful and will help shape how the Foundation understands and addresses these evolving needs.

Year-End Giving Season
It’s hard to believe, but October marks the start of the fourth and final quarter of 2025.

Across the U.S., this is often the time of year where many non-profits receive the largest share of philanthropic support from individuals.

And while “Giving Tuesday” often kickstarts year-end giving in late-November/early-December, online donations make it easy to make a gift anytime. Whether one-time or monthly, small or large, unrestricted or to a specific fund, we hope you’ll consider supporting our mission and work. Thank you for your support!
