The Next Round of Innovation/Seed Grants

After four successful rounds of investing in new and promising programs, research, and training across the Alliant University system, the Foundation has recently completed a re-tooled, fifth year of innovation/seed grants available to all core faculty and staff at Alliant.  The redesigned funding program encourages several areas of emphasis, helping to address some of the most pressing needs of our time.

This year’s awardees include seven impactful programs representing most of Alliant University’s campuses for a total of $64,312!

A Celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Connell Persico’s Leadership

January 24th marked a celebration of the 50th anniversary of when Connell Persico began his long and impactful career with the California School of Professional Psychology in Los Angeles (CSPP-LA). Between that tenure, plus nearly nine years with the Alliant Educational Foundation as a critical board member, we honored and thanked Connell for all of his generous leadership and support over these past five decades.

At a special tribute evening at The Griffin Club in Los Angeles, more than 120 friends, former colleagues, and supporters gathered to celebrate Connell’s impact. The event was truly special and you can catch a glimpse of some of the attendees by visiting here.

Additionally, if you would like to make a contribution in Connell’s honor, we have launched the “Connell Persico CSPP-LA Practicum Expansion Fund” to help bolster practicum opportunities for CSPP-LA students in clinical psychology.  Consider making a gift here!

Regional Children’s Mental Health Consortium

Working closely with Alliant’s California School of Professional Psychology (CSPP) in San Diego and the San Francisco Bay Area, the Alliant Educational Foundation is building new bridges in support of children’s mental health.  At present, we’re partnering with a variety of non-profit organizations and schools who work with under-resourced infants, children, and young adults and their families.
By placing CSPP clinical psychology graduate students at these youth-serving agencies, we’re bolstering their capacity to provide high-quality mental health support to some of the populations who most desperately need it, while also providing invaluable training opportunities for CSPP students. In addition, we are helping to fill the gap in the mental health workforce which is expected to reach a staggering deficit of 18,000 professionals by 2027 in San Diego County alone.

Low-Cost Psychotherapy Site Launching for CSPP Students
In partnership with the California Psychological Association Foundation, AEF is co-funding the development of a new matching website where CSPP graduate students can link up with low-cost or sliding scale clinical psychologists.  A requirement for many of the PsyD and PhD programs includes a set number of hours for the trainees’ own participation in psychotherapy. This new resource aims to reduce the financial barriers to securing this service.  Learn more or sign up today at www.cpafoundation.org/provider-sign-up.

New Scholarships for Alliant Students
Opening up within the next few weeks, Alliant University students can begin applying for competitive scholarship dollars.  The Foundation then reviews hundreds of student applications for the new round of scholarship funding over the summer.  This annual round of funding is made possible, in large part, by the generosity of more than 50 donor-restricted scholarship funds aimed at helping Alliant students across all campuses.  Over $80,000 in tuition assistance will be available for the coming year. This funding is in addition to $625,000 the Foundation approved for 2025 in direct support for Alliant University’s annual scholarship process.
If you would like to become a founding member of our new “Alliant Pathways Scholarship Fund” to benefit second-year CSPP students with financial need who are often the first in their family to attend college, please consider joining the new Alliant Giving Circle today!  Even small gifts can add up to a big impact.
